The Poetry of Trees

June 11, 2017October 6, 2017 ~ ferntaylor ~ Leave a comment

I find Tagore's poem 'The Palm Tree' really helps me to calm my mind and body when I am feeling stressed. In my blog below I explain why Β this poem inspires me and some of the strategies I use to find my own calm amidst the storm. The Palm Tree Palm-tree: single-legged giant, topping other … Continue reading The Poetry of Trees

Intimate Language

I recently read a story of a woman who was suffering from semantic dementia, a condition that caused her to lose her words. She had just 4000 words remaining (most adult English speakers have 20,000-35,000). This woman's husband had recently passed away and she lived alone. When asked by a neuroscientist how she felt, she … Continue reading Intimate Language

Embodied Listening

April 7, 2016December 11, 2016 ~ ferntaylor ~ Leave a comment

AΒ couple of years ago, I heard a story on the radio about a lady whose husband had voiced the announcements for the London Underground. Since her husband had passed away, this woman had visited her local underground station daily to hear his voice. One day, she arrived to find her husband's voice had been replaced … Continue reading Embodied Listening

Last year I worked with the charity '52 Lives' to produce some lesson plans about kindness for KS1 and 2. You can download them for free at the @52.lives website (I've put the link below). The plans are fully resourced and designed to get children thinking about what kindness is and how it feels to both give and receive it. I also put together a list of circle time activities based on kindness that you can use if you have a spare 5 minutes or incorporate into your PSHE sessions. The start of the new term might be a great time to focus on kindness in the classroom! 🌞 I also really recommend having a look at the work that @52.lives do if you haven't already. They're a really WONDERFUL charity who make a real difference to people's lives in so many ways! It was such a pleasure to work with them. If you're a teacher you might be interested to know that they offer school's workshops 🌝 . πŸ‘‰https://www.52-lives.org/schools/resources/ . #kindness #teachersofinstagram #classroomideas #lessonplans #compassion
Nearly the end of doing-nothing-mass. I love the lull between Xmas and new year. Here's my 2018 in the novels I read, there was one I didn't finish but enjoyed the rest. It's hard to choose but I think The Wolf Border might be my favourite... with Clay a close second. . Happy new year all xxxx . . . #bookstagram #readinglist #newyear #2018books #fiction #bestbooks2018 #readersofinstagram
